Antique Original American CA Listed Wm Lemos Oil Painting High Sierras Landscape

Well listed California artist, William M. Size: Framed 39" x 27", the image site is approximately 36"w x 24"h.

Condition: There is some crazing in the painting, and the painting is dirty. The frame has several scratches, and it is not properly secured to the painting's stretcher. The signature is almost signed twice. He moved to San Francisco in 1887, spent some years in LA in the 1890s, then settled in Santa Cruz in 1896.

He painted murals for businessmen, then he was the first concessionaire at the original Beach Casino on the Boardwalk in 1904. He remained on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk painting redwoods, still lifes, forest fires, beach scenes, and marines for tourists until the late 1930s when his eyesight failed. Lemos' paintings were exhibited at the California State Fair in 1885, and are now owned by establishments such as the Santa Cruz City Museum and the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite.
