This painting depicts a gorgeous violet and yellow floral arrangement rendered with breathtaking attention to detail. Kreyder was best known for his still life subject paintings. It's large in size and comes with a beautiful gold frame. In original "As Found" untouched condition, some areas with craquelure, frame is delicate -- please look at photos carefully. Alexis Kreyder lived from 1839 to 1912. He was born at Anlau (Bas Rhin) on October 21, 1839. The French painter known for his still lifes of flowers and fruit, Alexis Kreyder moved to Paris in 1859.
A pupil of Francais, Laville, Zippelius and Fuchs, he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1863 and at the Dijon Salon from 1892. Between 1863 and 1864 he worked with Théodore Rousseau Barbizon to support its decorative works for Prince Demidoff. Alexis Kreyder's took part in his first Salon in 1863 and exhibited for the next three decades.
He received the medal in 1869, a Second Class medal in 1884 and a Silver Medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. He was a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais and of the Societe Nationale des Beau-Arts. In 1889 he was made a Chevalier de la Legion dhonneur. Several of his paintings are in the Alsatian museums in Colmar, Mulhouse and Strasbourg.
