EDGAR HANLEY (British fl. 1878-1883) Victorian High Society Portrait Painting
Quality High Society Portrait Study. He specialized in portait and flower painting and was for some time influenced by The Pre-Raphaelites. We have looked very closely at this study. It is beautifully painted yet we feel it may be over a mixed media study over a lithographic base. Size- 19 by 15 inches approx (480 x 380 mm) including frame, image 10.5 by 8.75 inches approx.
Medium- Watercolour & gouache over we feel a lithographic base. Frame- Unglazed later wooden frame, offered free with the painting. Condition- Generally decent though with paper browning and light foxing spots evident. Signature- Lower right, ascribed verso.
