Publicity photograph for the 1958 film The High Cost of Living. 1934 reached stardom on the Broadway stage, co-starring with Edward G. She earned Oscar nominations for two films directed by her husband, the late John Cassavetes: A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and Gloria (1980). In addition to her film work, Rowlands has earned considerable acclaim for her television roles. In 1985, she earned an Emmy nomination for the AIDS drama An Early Frost, and Rowlands has won Emmy Awards for The Betty Ford Story (1987) and Face of a Stranger (1991).
