Layers are also visible beneath the undercut edges of the figure. The cameo itself appears to be French and I would date it to the 1850's to 1880's.
I believe this cameo was set in a later frame circa 1910 fitted with a locking clasp and a swivel pendant. It is either a low carat gold- not testing to 10k, or a plated silver. It does not match the quality of the cameo itself which is a puzzle to me.
The cameo is signed on the back with script letters, what appear to be Q. The detail is superb and dramatic from her face and head to her draping garment.
Nose is perfect, and no visible chips anywhere else. This piece measures 1 9/16" by 1 5/16" and weighs 20 grams. It is 5/8 thick at highest point. Gorgeous quality agate cameo at a decent price!
